This game should be a fun one. We have an explosive offense against a top tier defense. This game is a pretty tough one to call for many reason. Will Justin Herbert regress and have a Sophomore slump? Will Fitzpatrick become more stable at QB than we seen last year out of Washington? Will Washington's defense fall off and by how much?
When Chargers pass: I will call this a wash. The Chargers were 9th in passing yards and 6th in points per game last year. Washington were 2nd against the pass. This is truly a strength on strength situation.
When Chargers rush: I will also call this a wash. The Chargers were 18th in rushing yards last year while Washington was 13th in stopping the run. They are both around the middle of the pack in this regard.
Quick Note: The Washington Football Team gave up the 2nd fewest yards in the NFL last year. Dominate defense!
When Washington passes: The Chargers have a slight advantage: Washington was 25th in passing and 30th in points per game last year. The Chargers were 9th in pass defense. I do believe Washington becomes better this year in passing with Fitzmagic.
When Washington rushes: This is a wash for me. Washington was 26th in rushing yards last year while the Chargers were 18th in stopping the run. Washington gets better here too especially with more consistent QB play.
MY PICK:
I give the slight advantage to the Chargers here based on offensive firepower. They will do just enough on both sides of the ball to win.

Washington: 17
